Defending Venezuela

Mücadele Birliği (Struggle Unity, Türkiye)

Realizing that it could not stand up to states with powerful armies such as the Russian Federation, China, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the US imperialism turned its sights on Latin American countries, which it considered militarily “weak.”

Venezuela and Colombia are at the top of the list of countries it has targeted. If it overcomes these two obstacles, there is no doubt that other Latin American countries will be next.

It is neither possible nor correct to attribute this aggression by US imperialism to a single cause. There are countless reasons for this aggression. But if we were to list the most important or prominent among these countless reasons, we could point to two: first, to halt the collapse of its crumbling hegemony; second, to intimidate the world proletariat and working people, including those in socialist countries.

A revolutionary wave is gaining great momentum among the world’s working class and working people; the revolutionary situation is maturing and deepening. Uprisings have spread across the world. Faced with such challenges to US imperialism, it has become vitally important for the US to demonstrate its military and financial power and to prove in practice that it can subjugate the countries and governments it targets.

This is why it has targeted Chávez, who established a socialist-leaning populist government in Venezuela, and then Maduro; why it has been trying for twenty years to bring a US puppet to power in that country. The failure to achieve any results from all these efforts makes US imperialism even more aggressive. Because the more it fails to achieve results, the more its power-based deterrence over Latin American countries loses its effect, and its hegemony over Latin American countries erodes.

Precisely for this reason, the resistance of Venezuela’s socialist-leaning popular government and its leader, Nicolás Maduro, against US imperialism is not only a resistance for Venezuela but also for the working class, oppressed peoples, and socialist states around the world, such as Cuba.

In other words, Venezuela and President Maduro are resisting for all of us today. Therefore, the struggle of the Venezuelan working class and laborers, the struggle of the people’s government, must be supported by all of us, that is, the working class and laborers of the world.

The first front line against US imperialist aggression was established by the Russian army in the war against Ukrainian fascism. There, NATO and the US, along with the European imperialists, were stopped and are now being driven towards a major defeat. Venezuela is a candidate to become a second front line where US aggression is stopped. If US imperialism decides to launch and initiates an all-out war against Venezuela, it will not find the courage to start a war against another country without emerging victorious from this war.

So, if US imperialism launches an all-out war against Venezuela, can it win? It is not difficult to predict that those whose thinking has been influenced by imperialist propaganda will answer “yes” to this question. We do not expect those who do not trust in the power of the world’s working class and laboring peoples to reach any other conclusion.

However, we must say that such people are mistaken. A united, organized, and armed people are invincible. We have seen countless examples of this throughout history. There is no need to delve into the depths of history, citing examples such as Vietnam and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. More recently, just two or three months ago, didn’t the peoples of the world stop Zionist Israel and its patron, the US? Didn’t Trump, that aggressive man, admit, “If we hadn’t stopped [Zionist] Israel, the world would have stopped it”?

Venezuela is the new front in the ongoing war between the world’s working class and laboring peoples and the world bourgeoisie; between socialism and capitalism. Imperialist aggression and the world bourgeoisie were stopped on European-Asian soil by the Russian army, with the active international solidarity of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Now, they are trying to prevent from a heavy defeat.

Venezuela is a candidate to be a second front where imperialist aggression will be stopped and defeated. On this front, either the imperialist aggression carried out by the US will be stopped, or the US will subjugate all Latin American states, including Colombia.

With the slogan “Comuna o Nada (communes or nothing),” the popular government and Maduro, who mobilized Venezuela’s working class and poor masses, are giving strong signals that they can stop US aggression by relying on Venezuela’s working class, laborers, and poor people. For example, in a recent news report, we read the following about Maduro and his government’s preparations:

“President Nicolas Maduro has ordered the mass distribution of rifles across the country to arm the workers against a possible United States invasion. The arms, he said in a speech, will go ‘to the coasts, the mountains, cities, villages, plains, hamlets, borders, popular neighborhoods, all in order to defend our rights, our peace, our lives, and our sovereignty.’ In 1973, Chilean president Salvador Allende failed to arm the workers in the face of a US-backed coup against him, a decision historians agree was a fatal mistake. Eight million Venezuelans are part of civilian militias sworn to defend the country from internal or external threats.”

The Venezuelan government and its leader Maduro are now doing what every genuine popular revolution, every genuine popular power must do: arming the working class, the laboring masses, the poor people, and the youth. This action by the Venezuelan government should be seen as an expression of its determined march toward socialism. For in a land where the working class and the masses are armed from head to toe and have undergone military training, the bourgeoisie cannot easily regain power.

If US imperialism dares to wage total war and attacks, it will not only be the war of the Venezuelan popular government and Maduro, but the war of the world’s working class, the working people, the socialist states, and the states fighting against imperialism! Russia, knowing what a US victory over Venezuela would mean, is supporting Maduro and his government with all its might. Socialist Cuba, Nicaragua, Colombia, and other Latin American countries standing against imperialism support the Venezuelan government and Maduro.

In this polarization, the working class, working people, and youth of Turkey and Kurdistan must stand with the Venezuelan government and Maduro; because this war against US imperialism is also our war!

Communa o Nada!

Venezuela Will Win!

Victory will belong to the people’s government of Venezuela!
