Comrades and Friends,
In 1953, the Victory in the Korean War was a historic turning point in the worldwide anti-imperialist struggle against the imperialist war, that today still exists, and has become the Third World War.
The Korean War started when in 1950 American imperialism invaded Korea under the pretext of “an intervention of the United Nations”. In fact, it was the first war of NATO.
NATO was founded on the 4th of April of 1949. Already one year later, 7 countries of NATO (under which Belgium) under the leadership of the USA, formed and guided a military coalition of 16 countries, members of the United Nations, that invaded Korea under the flag of the UN. By this, NATO proved that from the beginning it was not Nordic, not Atlantic and did not strive for peace, but that it was imperialist on a world scale. Soon the USA were the only country left that stayed, and expanded its troops in Korea, though still misusing the United Nations flag. The USA bombed and destroyed all towns in Korea, killing millions of people. But in July 1953 they had to admit that, due to the determination of the Korean people, they were not able to conquer the country. On the 27th of July, 1953, at 10 a.m. in Panmunjom, the American general Clark signed the Korean Armistice Agreement. He complained about his dishonoring position and declared: “it is a painful moment for me. I am the first USA-commander in history that signed an armistice without victory.”
The victory in the Korean War was the result of a centuries long struggle against colonization by Japan in the 16th century, Gr. Britain, France and USA in the 19th century and the occupation by Japan in 1905.
Kim Il Sung was born into a poor peasant family in Mangyongdae in 1912. Already in 1926 he formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union and led the national liberation war against the fascist invasion and occupation, which liberated the country on August 15, 1945. In June 1930 he explained the principles of Juche, which are the essence of the ideology of the Workers Party of Korea. This is the people-first principle, the political idea of regarding the masses of the people as the masters of society, revolution and construction.
On October 10, 1945, Kim Il Sung founded the Workers’ Party of Korea. The first congress of WPK was on August 28, 1946. On September 9, 1948, Kim Il Sung founded the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and became premier of the cabinet and head of state. During the liberation war of 1950-1953 he was supreme commander of the Korean People’s Army, that defended the country against the invasion of USA-imperialism. During the following years in Korea the movements of agricultural cooperation, industrialization and cultural development enhanced the well-being of the people and living standards at a fast pace.
The 9th congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea took place in Pyongyang in February 2026. Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, in his report on the Plenary Meeting of WPK, described the actual international situation as follows :
“Today, the world is witnessing rampant ultra-nationalism of modern version such as “America First” idea, Zionism, Ukrainian Neo-Nazism and Japanese militarism, international instability reminiscent of the disastrous scene a century ago when the whole world was involved in wars and bloodshed through collusion with one another, and frenzy high-handed and arbitrary practices of a certain country ignoring international laws. The reality goes to prove once again the justness of all of our political choices and the path we followed.”
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea plays an advanced role in the anti-imperialist coalition, against the actual NATO war offensive. This anti-imperialist coalition is built around countries as China, the DPR of Korea and Russia, and is gaining allies over the world. Countries as Vietnam, Laos, Cuba, and Iran, Eritrea, South Africa, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Venezuela, Nicaragua joined this anti-imperialist front. Many African countries recently took the side of this coalition.
